Challenge/Opportunity

In early 2012, the Riverside County Bar Association presented us with a project for redesigning their website and expanding the capabilities to better serve their constituents. These features and capabilities were requested:

Enable bar association members to quickly discover scheduled events.
RSVP and pay online for event registration.
Present bar association members with a comprehensive listing and descriptions of the various practice bar sections; including section leader contact information.
Enable new members to register and pay online, and enable existing bar association members to pay their annual membership renewal fee online.
Provide a downloadable (PDF) version of the current issue of The Riverside Lawyer Magazine.
Provide a comprehensive archive of The Riverside Lawyer Magazine.
Provide forms for each of the affiliated organizations or sponsored events and activities (e.g,. New Attorney Academy registration form).
Provide generic payment form for those wishing to pay dues online, or donate, but without having to create an account on the website.

Scope of Project

Deliver standard features via our Blue Core CMS™ platform.

Deliver on specialized requirements via secondary web application integrated with the pages served by our Blue Core CMS™ platform such that the final website presents to the website visitors as one coherent website.

Solution

To deliver on the wide array of requirements, we first implemented the basic features using the pre-built site components of Blue Core CMS™.

Built-In Website Features

	Responsive Design All websites hosted on our Blue Core CMS™ platform are cross-device and cross-browser compatible. Each website is integrated with jQuery 2.x, Bootstrap 3.x and supplemental JavaScript and CSS libraries. These open source libraries provide a useful balance between support for modern mobile-friendly website features and backwards compatibility with older browsers.
	Informational Pages Informational pages house static content on the website that may be permanent or routinely updated. The self-service administrative features on Blue Core CMS™ make it easy to safely perform these updates yourself. Alternatively, our support team can perform updates for you, and typically at no additional cost.
	Forms - Inquiry Form Choose anything from a basic contact form to a full custom application form that can be submitted online. The forms delivered via our Blue Core CMS™ platform are easily customized. Each form is backed by a database where the data provided by your website visitors is stored permanently. When visitors submit a form, the data is automatically written to the database, then sent to you and/or others in your organization as an email message. Advanced security features built into our Forms component prevent automated form spam from being submitted through our system.
	Forms - Paypal-Integrated Donation Form Our Blue Core CMS™ platform includes Payment Forms as a pre-built but customizable type of form that enables your website visitors to select from several options and provide information. As they select options, a total payment amount is automatically calculated. Your website visitors then proceed to pay (or donate) on PayPal. The Payment forms delivered via our Blue Core CMS™ platform are easily customized. Each form is backed by a database where the data provided by your website visitors is stored permanently. When visitors submit a form, the data is automatically written to the database, then sent to PayPal when they proceed to pay. Advanced security features built into our Forms component prevent automated form spam from being submitted through our system.

Custom Website Features

Custom Membership Registration Process

The member registration form delivers a custom registration process whereby registrants are guided through a series of steps. The steps include (1) verifying supplied email address; (2) providing required personal, professional, and contact information; (3) paying dues.

The registration form is integrated with the website login process such that membership status is validated during login. When membership has expired, the user is automatically directed to the registration form where they are prompted to renew their registration and pay the annual dues.

Online RSVP for Events

The events calendar includes a custom RSVP feature that enables members or non-members to register for events. The RSVP feature is integrated with PayPal to enable immediate payment when due.

Custom Admin Page For Calendar Events

A custom administration page enables front office staff to independently manage the website’s event calendar. They can create events, delete events, and define events – specifying these event characteristics: Event name, topic, speaker, location, CLE credits, RSVP deadline, and many other bar association-specific event characteristics.

Other Deliverables

During the course of our engagement with the bar association, we performed a comprehensive strategic communications analysis process, resulting in a set of recommendations for organization structure improvements, and many other tactical deliverables – including website improvements.
