Challenge/Opportunity

Black & Blue Umpire Camps (BBUC) is an existing client that had an outdated website. The main purpose of its informational website is to disseminate information and facilitate the registration process for amateur baseball umpires (all levels) interested in BBUC’s training camps held in Sacramento and Riverside every year. The website also facilitates the registration process for the training camps.

As BBUC sought to make website information updates in order to open up registration for its 2018 umpire training camps, leadership also wanted a new look and feel for the website that would better showcase its value propositions.

Scope of Project

We performed the following tasks for BBUC’s 2018 website re-design:

Logo file cleanup (included full logo package and style guide)
Website development plan
Website re-design (new responsive website on Blue Core CMS™)

Solution

Since BBUC did not have a vector format of its logo, we started by performing the cleanup task on the logo file. In the final logo package, we included vector formats of the logo, color variations of the logo and a logo style guide that informs what is the specific font family, color scheme and sizing specifications for the logo.

Next, we worked with BBUC to identify one of our model sites that would serve as a starting point for us to customize for the business and its specific value propositions. One of the major improvements that brought the finished product to life was BBUC’s collection of high-resolution images that shows its umpires in action.

Clearly, the call-to-action on this website is to register for an umpire training camp. Access and directions to this process are made prominent throughout the site with buttons in the header, in the main navigation bar and in a secondary navigation bar (on inside pages) to make it easy to register for a camp. There are two kinds of Blue Core CMSTM forms involved in the registration process: a standard data entry form for the registrant’s information, and a PayPal-integrated form that allows BBUC to accept payments safely and securely through the website.

The Staff directory is delivered with a Blue Core CMSTM catalog. The main page presents the whole directory, and then clicking on a staff member’s photo thumbnail brings the visitor to information on the umpiring background of the respective staff member.

As part of the build, we migrated all of BBUC’s content from the old website onto the latest version of the Blue Core CMSTM system and then BBUC leadership took advantage of the Blue Core CMSTM self-service administrative tools to add in the information for the 2018 umpire camps so that they could open up registration on the new website.

Built-In Website Features

	Responsive Design All websites hosted on Blue Core CMS™ are cross-device and cross-browser compatible. Each website is integrated with jQuery 3.x, Bootstrap 4.x and supplemental JavaScript and CSS libraries. These open source libraries provide a useful balance between support for modern mobile-friendly website features and backwards compatibility with older browsers.
	Informational Pages Informational pages house static content on the website that may be permanent or routinely updated. The self-service administrative features on Blue Core CMS™ make it easy to safely perform these updates yourself. Alternatively, our support team can perform updates for you, and typically at no additional cost.
	Rotators A rotator can contain images, announcements or any other content relevant to your audience. The moving elements keep content fresh and engaging and also highlight key messages or value propositions about your business. A specialized editor in Blue Core CMS™ makes it easy to add, remove and arrange slides in rotators. You can also schedule slides to appear and disappear on predetermined dates.
	Forms - Data Entry Form Choose anything from a basic contact form to a full custom application form that can be submitted online. The forms delivered via Blue Core CMS™ are easily customized. Each form is backed by a database where the data provided by your website visitors is stored permanently. When visitors submit a form, the data is automatically written to the database, then sent to you and/or others in your organization as an email message. Advanced security features built into our Forms component prevent automated form spam from being submitted through our system.
	Forms - PayPal-Integrated Payment Form Our Blue Core CMS™ platform includes Payment Forms as a pre-built but customizable type of form that enables your website visitors to select from amongst several options and provide information. As they select options, a total payment amount is automatically calculated. Your website visitors then proceed to pay (or donate) on PayPal. The Payment forms delivered via our Blue Core CMS™ platform are easily customized. Each form is backed by a database where the data provided by your website visitors is stored permanently. When visitors submit a form, the data is automatically written to the database, then sent to PayPal when they proceed to pay. Advanced security features built into our Forms component prevent automated form spam from being submitted through our system.
	Catalogs Catalogs can be used to maintain a product inventory, membership base, or any other collection of items presented in an organized manner to the audience. Blue Core CMS™ makes it easy to add, remove and update items in a catalog. The drag-and-drop interface makes it even easier to organize them.
	Photo Albums Blue Core CMS™ supports photo albums for any collection of images you wish to showcase on your website. Our Photo Album Manager allows you to change the settings as well drag-and-drop the order you wish to present the images.
